Privacy policy

Written to be read, not to be scrolled past. The short version: we look your vehicle up, we don't keep your registration, and we don't sell anything about you.

What we collect

The registration you type in, the condition answers you tick, and standard analytics about how the page was used. We do not ask for your name, address, email or phone number to give you an estimate.

What we do with a registration

It's sent securely to official government vehicle data services (DVSA and DVLA) to identify the vehicle. The lookup result is held in a temporary cache for up to 24 hours so repeat checks are fast. We do not store the registration itself: our anonymised valuation records (make, model, year, weight, the estimate produced) replace it with an irreversible cryptographic hash, so a record can't be traced back to a registration or to you. Those records contain no personal data and are kept indefinitely to improve our weight data.

Rate limiting

Your IP address is held briefly in a temporary, hashed form to limit lookups per connection and protect the free service from automated abuse. It isn't used to identify you and isn't kept beyond that purpose.

Passing you to a buyer

Only if you ask. If you click through for a firm quote, our partner's affiliate network (AWIN) sets a cookie so that, if you accept, the enquiry is credited to this site and we earn a commission. The cookie belongs to the network, lasts a limited period, and tracks the referral, not your browsing. Details you provide on the partner's site are governed by their privacy policy from that point.

Cookies

Essential cookies to make the site work, plus the affiliate cookie described above if you click through to a partner. No advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking by us.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask what we hold about you (typically: none — anonymised valuation records can't be connected to you), have it corrected or deleted, or complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk). Email privacy@scrapvaluechecker.co.uk and we'll reply within 30 days.

Third-party services: DVSA MOT History API and DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service (official government data services), AWIN (affiliate network), Hostinger (hosting). If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
